In a world that revolves around business and selling products, marketing and communications are essential for every company to have. No matter how big or small, businesses will undoubtedly be involved in some kind of communications, either with other businesses or directly to customers.
Marketing and communications are all about meeting the customers’ needs and communicating information that would compel them to buy your product. Marketing comes in between product development and sales – they must be highly knowledgeable about the product so that they can come up with ways to sell it. In marketing, branding is important in selling the product and conveying a message that falls in line with company values.
In the 21st century, social media has revolutionized marketing. Social media is now an integral part of most people’s lives; as such, new marketing techniques have been developed to take advantage of this, like influencer marketing. When utilized correctly, these techniques have the potential to skyrocket brand recognition and product sales. The digital marketing scene still has plenty of room to grow, which means it’s a great opportunity to look into for aspiring marketers.
Working in marketing and communications means taking into consideration what the audience wants from your products and implementing appropriate strategies to meet their demands. As such, there is a lot of collaboration with different teams like business development, design, and sales. Since the communications team must make sure marketing campaigns are easy to read and understand, they must work with the design team to make the products as appealing as possible. Marketing can be challenging if the product is clearly flawed or only appeals to a niche audience. People working in marketing and communications are also under a lot of pressure to sell their products because there could be severe consequences if their efforts are not successful.
Marketing and communications can be further broken down into market research, brand management, advertising, promotions, and public relations. Job duties include coming up with ways to sell products via marketing campaigns, advertisements, sales pitches for products, sales strategies, media planning, public relations, and more. Those working in marketing and communications will build skills in ideation, content creation, copywriting, editing, design, preparation of business presentations and materials, industry research and promoting products. It is certainly a rewarding career for people interested in building their craft across a variety of relevant skills and broadening their opportunities.
